More than 90% of the carbon emissions from the entire value chain of a construction project come from Scope 3 emissions. However, different types of Scope 3 categories currently reported by construction companies, as well as the ambiguity of the categories, cause confusion about which categories should be reported, eventually make it difficult to accurately evaluate carbon emissions. In this study, we conducted in-depth interviews to examine the current status and difficulties related to the categories currently disclosed by Korean construction companies. This research contributes to deriving limitations of construction companies’ scope 3 category aggregation and disclosure.
